Ban heavy vehicles to minimise chances of crashes during Gawai-Raya, urges PBDSB

KUCHING, May 30: Heavy vehicles should not be allowed to ply main roads in the state this festive season, opined Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) deputy president Andrew Puro.

He opined that such vehicles pose a danger to motorists during festive celebrations, where road traffic volume tends to surge.

In a press statement, Andrew also advised motorists and other road users to be extra careful while driving.

“Plan your trip and remember that safety is always a priority,” he reminded.

Andrew highlighted his concerns over the number of road accidents in the state, with the most recent one being yesterday (May 29), where a head-on collision between a trailer lorry and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at KM42 Bintulu-Miri coastal road took three lives and injured seven.

“Our roads are in a dire situation with the ongoing Pan Borneo highway construction. We hear a lot of complaints about potholes and uneven surface of roads.

“It is time for Sarawak to have a better public transportation system and better roads,” he said.

Andrew also took the opportunity to wish all Sarawakians Selamat Hari Gawai Dayak and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Spend quality time with family and friends and preserve our harmony. We (PBDSB) also want to wish our Sabahan friends Selamat Hari Kaamatan.” — DayakDaily
