SIBU, March 7: The leadership crisis in the Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) should be left to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to investigate.

Deputy Chairman of the party, Simon Tiong Ing Tung in a statement today also called on members to stay calm despite the turmoil that is currently plaguing the party.

“I request party members to be patient and calm to enable the ROS carry out an investigation into the complaints made earlier,” he said.

Tiong insisted that while the investigation is being carried out, party leaders will continue to serve as usual.

“While we wait for the investigation to be done, our leaders will continue to serve the needs of the community,” he added.

Previously, the party’s leadership crisis peaked after two factions fought for power within the party.

It then led to a police report made by the then Aspirasi President Lina Soo who claimed her role and power as party leader was illegally usurped.

Soo, in a previous newspaper report, claimed that the power grab was carried out during the Aspirasi General Meeting which took place at a hotel in Kuching.

She further claimed that the party had held a meeting on Feb 12 to present the annual financial report for the year 2022 to be sent to the ROS.

However, the meeting, she explained, was used to announce the new president, treasurer and secretary for the party.

She claimed that the meeting was held illegally.

Lina also insisted that she and the Supreme Council Committee of the party elected in the party election held every five years will continue to serve until the end of the term. — DayakDaily
