KUCHING, July 6: Sarawak Energy celebrated the legacy of its retired employees at the Sarawak Energy Retirees Dinner 2025 on July 4, recognising their collective contributions to the organisation’s progress as the region’s renewable energy developer, while also fostering enduring connections among former colleagues.
Representing Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, the event was officiated by Ir. James Ung, Group Chief Operating Officer, who delivered the address on his behalf to more than 370 retirees and 308 family members gathered for the occasion.
“You built the foundation of Sarawak Energy—shaping who we are today. Sarawak Energy will continue to grow, guided by its roadmap to becoming a renewable energy powerhouse for Sarawak and the region.
“The legacy you have left behind forms the bedrock of this ambition, and the culture of excellence you instilled continues to shape our journey forward,” he said in a media release.
The appreciation dinner also saw a special tribute to Sarawak Energy’s most senior retirees in attendance—Tan Boon Hua, who retired in 1988 after 27 years of service, and Ahmad Zaini, who served 25 years before retiring in 1993.
Acknowledging retirees as valued stakeholders whose experience contributes to Sarawak Energy’s long-term perspective and resilience, attendees were encouraged to stay engaged with the organisation.
“We hope you will all continue to stay connected with us—whether on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok—and remain our ambassadors in your communities.
“You are, and always will be, part of the Sarawak Energy family,” he said.
With a workforce of over 6,000 employees —predominantly Sarawakians—Sarawak Energy continues to focus on uplifting communities, championing sustainability, and advancing regional energy cooperation.
He added that Sarawak Energy’s flagship biennial platform, the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF), scheduled to take place September 3-4 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, would continue to advance this significant discourse on energy transition in the region. — DayakDaily
