KUCHING, April 14: To accommodate the expected larger number of churchgoers this Holy Week, additional chairs will be set up in some church buildings with large corridors, foyers or porch.
Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching Simon Poh said this is to cater to more worshippers from Good Friday to Easter Sunday and at the same time ensure physical distancing.
“Last week when we celebrated Palm Sunday, I noticed all our churches were full with many others being unable to enter the church building.
“This is an indication that on Good Friday (April 15), there will be more Christians coming to churches,” he said in a statement today.
Poh, who is also Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) chairman, said livestreaming for masses would continue for the bedridden and those who cannot make it physically to churches.
“On behalf of the heads of churches, bishops, priests and religions, pastors and all church leaders, I wish every Christian an Easter filled with hope and life.
“In a spirit of mutual respect and acceptance in this land of harmonious Sarawak, I would like to include our wishes of Happy Vaisakhi Day to our Sikh friends and a fruitful Ramadan to our Muslim friends,” he added. — DayakDaily
