KUCHING, March 14: Newly minted Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Dato Ibrahim Baki will be sworn in as Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department.
According to several reliable sources, the oath-taking ceremony will be held on Monday (March 17).
His upcoming appointment is believed to be due to his recent victory in the PBB party election, where he emerged as the top winner in the Bumiputera wing’s VP race.
The Satok assemblyman began his political journey in 1985 when he joined the PBB Satok Branch Youth Wing.
By 1987, he was already actively involved in PBB State Youth and went on to serve as secretary-general and vice president of PBB Youth for about 15 years. He later became a member of the Supreme Council. Prior to being one of the VPs of PBB, he was deputy secretary-general for PBB. His involvement in PBB spans over 40 years.
Currently, he is the chief whip for the Sarawak ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Apart from being a politician, Ibrahim, who is a legal professional by training, holds an LLB (Hons) from the United Kingdom and is a Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn. He began his career as a legal officer at Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in 1984 before co-founding the law firm Messrs Idris Buang, Ibrahim Baki & Co in Sarawak.
Ibrahim is also a seasoned corporate professional with over three decades of experience across various industries, including property development, shipping, and media. He is currently the chairman of Sarawak Energy Berhad. — DayakDaily
