SIBU, Sept 3: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian has called on the Sarawak Chinese Chamber of Commerce Association (ACCCIS) to help achieve the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) and make Sarawak an advanced and prosperous State with high income by 2030.

As such, he emphasised that companies need to react to change, get creative, develop skills and reimagine their business model so that they can have the capacity to adapt to new possibilities and different circumstances, stay ahead and remain relevant in this current world that is constantly evolving.

“Members of the Chinese Chambers need to know what they are doing. They need to upskill and change their business model to suit the current situation.

“At the same time, as Sarawak is building up as a nation, we want them to come and join us and continue to contribute,” he said when officiating the ACCCIS Annual General Meeting (AGM) here today.

With the Sarawak government taking an aggressive approach to transform Sarawak into a prosperous, inclusive and environmentally sustainable State through PCDS 2030, Dr Sim pointed out that it is doing things differently.

He reminded members of the Chambers that keeping change as part of their ongoing strategy will have a huge implication on how they participate in building Sarawak differently, while keeping advancing and growing alongside Sarawak’s progress.

“Like why Sarawak is pursuing the hydrogen industry. We all know that currently Malaysia is quite happy with the current oil and gas prices but people don’t realise how expensive petrol is.

“With increasing oil prices, this will become the reason for people to make the change from petrol to electric or hydrogen fueled cars in the near future.

“If you don’t change (way of doing business) and when electric cars come, there will be a new set of skills needed,” Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government added.
