KUCHING, April 28: Sarawak activist Robert Sawang has suggested that there should be a special channel by the Sarawak government and its agencies for the public to receive updates on high-profile cases in the State.
He said it was important for the authorities to share a preliminary report consisting of the basic facts of a case, the individuals involved, and relevant details.
“Press conferences are needed, especially in high-profile cases, to provide updates and answer any concerns.
“This allows for direct communication and explanation of crucial issues,” he told reporters at a cafe today.
He was referring to several high-profile cases that have taken place in Sarawak involving parties that are of public interest.
At the same time, Robert claimed that the growing number of investigations that have gone dormant on high-profile cases has prompted calls for greater transparency in the progress of probes into ongoing and past cases.
“We want justice, zero corruption, no double standards, no abuse of power, and no discrimination,” he said.
Meanwhile, Robert said a peaceful protest that was supposed to take place today did not materialise upon request by the police, who were also present within the vicinity. — DayakDaily
