KUCHING, Feb 29: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) has called on all Christians and churches to reject all forms of religious fundamentalism and racial-based politics that will cause disharmony and division in Malaysia.

In a statement today, ACS’ chairman Archibishop Simon Poh outlined that the candidate for prime minister must reject religious extremism and be committed to racial unity and religious harmony for Malaysia.

He believed the prime minister post should be held by a leader who is for all Malaysians and not for any particular race or religion.

Thus, he stressed that ACS was committed to the promotion of peace, harmony, unity, integrity, social development and well-being for all Malaysians of all races, creed and cultures.

As such, he said the ACS urges Christians to fast, penance and intercessions be offered to Malaysia and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, rulers and political leaders to make sound decisions for common good of the nation and the people.

As for the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), he reminded Christians to be vigilant and ensure good hygienic practices and maintain health precautions in all houses for worship.

At the same time, he urged Christians to spend time praying for thr Covid-19 situation as it has affected the world’s economy and the lives and health of people throughout Malaysia and the world. —DayakDaily
