KUCHING, June 18: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has called on all party leaders and members to work hard humbly and in unity to ensure a clean sweep of the 31 parliamentary seats in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

Abang Johari, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman said the party has performed well in the 2021 Sarawak Election as it managed to retain all 47 seats it contested in while the ruling coalition GPS which PBB is a part of, managed to win 76 out of the total 82 seats.

“But don’t be arrogant. Rather, work hard in a humble manner. We have won 76 out of 82 seats, through GPS and our friends.

“I believe if we work hard with one heart and one combined effort, we will win all the 31 seats (in GE15). Let us entrust this to God while we make all the effort,” said Abang Johari when officiating at the PBB 15th Triennial General Meeting held at Borneo Convention Centre (BCCK) today.

During the 2021 Sarawak Election, PBB won all 47 seats it contested in, while other GPS component parties Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) regained much lost ground, resulting in GPS retaining 76 out of a total of 82 State seats.

SUPP managed to wrestle back its lost seats of Opar, Tanjung Batu, Kota Sentosa, Bukit Assek, Dudong, Pelawan, Pujut to retain 13 out of the 18 seats it contested in, losing only Padungan, Pending, Batu Lintang, Bawang Assan and Engkilili.

PRS on the other hand, managed to defend all of its 11 seats and PDP also managed to wrestle back all of its lost seats except Ba’kelalan and are now holding five State seats.

In terms of parliamentary seats, GPS currently holds 18 seats.

PBB, which was allocated 14 seats, lost Puncak Borneo and retained the remaining 13 seats in the 2018 General Election.

SUPP, which was allocated seven seats, managed to keep only one seat — Serian — while PRS lost three of its seats namely Selangau, Julau and Lubok Antu during the election.

After the election, the party lost Sri Aman after its MP Datuk Masir Kujat left the party.

PDP which was allocated four seats managed to retain only two seats after losing Saratok and Mas Gading to the Opposition.

For GE15, GPS needs to wrestle back 13 seats including Mas Gading, Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Puncak Borneo, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Saratok, Sarikei, Julau, Lanang, Sibu, Selangau and Miri. — DayakDaily
