KUCHING, Sept 28: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved a total of RM11.5 million for the construction of the Anglican Training Centre Complex at St Thomas’ Cathedral, Kuching.

Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute said prior to today, Abang Johari had approved RM8.5 million for the construction of the complex.

“Two years ago, the Premier of Sarawak approved an allocation of RM7 million for the Anglican Training Centre Complex and later added RM1.5 million.

“And just now, informally or verbally, he approved another RM3 million,” said Danald when met by the media after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at the latter’s office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Danald said the purpose of the courtesy call was to express appreciation for the Premier’s support towards churches, including mission schools, throughout Sarawak.

The visit also aimed to express the support of the Anglican Church for the Sarawak government’s wholistic efforts and welfare policies.

“At the same time, we also seek moral support from the Sarawak government as churches have become part of the community that serves the big community of Sarawak,” said Danald.

Also present at the courtesy call was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. — DayakDaily
