KUCHING, March 5: An unhealthy lifestyle will affect productivity and lead to an economic downturn, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said medical experts have always advised that an individual must know how to manage his or her time and set some aside for recreational activities.

“This is because if we are too busy to take care of ourselves, it will affect our productivity.

“When our productivity is affected, it will then create a negative impact on the economy indirectly,” he said when launching the Sarawak X-Tive 2022 programme held at Datuk Patinggi Ali Hall in Gedong today.

Abang Johari who is also Gedong assemblyman further highlighted that many health problems could occur if one does not practice a healthy lifestyle. Among them were obesity and heart problems.

“That is why the Sarawak X-Tive programme reflects one of the State government’s efforts to encourage Sarawakians to to take care of their health and learn better time management,” he added.

In his speech earlier, Abang Johari also said Sarawakians must have an active and healthy mind in order to realise the State’s vision as a developed State with high income by 2030.

“We want to produce future youth with active minds in terms or economy because our economy is currently moving towards digitalisation.

“For an example, the farmers must start using Internet of Things (IOT) in their agricultural activities while entrepreneurs must start using e-commerce,” he emphasised.

Among those present were Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister-cum-Batang Sadong MP Dato Sri Nancy Shukri; Sarawak Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Minister-cum-Asajaya assemblyman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Utility2 and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi as well as State deputy ministers. — DayakDaily
