MIRI, Nov 26: A 72-year-old man died this afternoon after he was attacked by bees in an incident at Taman Bulatan Miri.
Confirming the case, Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee said the victim, Chin Tet Ming, was found unconscious by firefighters who rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.23pm.
“There were traces of bee stings on the victim’s body and face. Our firefighters acted by using special protective clothing which they usually use to destroy poisonous insects or animals before moving the victim to a safer place, about 30 feet away from where he was initially found.
“Paramedics from the Ministry of Health later confirmed the victim was dead at 3.20pm,” Ahmad Nizam said in a statement.
Based on the CCTV visuals, the victim managed to press a panic button before he collapsed.
Ahmad Nizam added that another man who tried to save the victim was also stung but is in stable condition. He was handed over to the paramedics for further action.
Meanwhile, as firefighters continued to inspect and monitor the area to ensure it was safe, they stumbled upon a nest on a tree some 70 feet above the ground.
“After discussing with the local council and other agencies to destroy the nest, we decided to use our sky lift to facilitate the work.
“According to the operations commander, this has to be done immediately for the safety of the public and nearby residents who use the public park,” Ahmad Nizam said. — DayakDaily
