KUCHING, May 16: Sarawak expects to receive 500,000 doses of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine within a week.
According to Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee, this will be followed by an additional 500,000 doses.
“The Sarawak government has secured 500,000 doses of the vaccine under the State government’ own initiative, probably arriving within a week.
“This will be followed by an additional 500,000 doses later,” he said during a Facebook livestream last night.
Dr Annuar who is also the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator added that the vaccine will be given free of charge by the State government to private hospitals to assist in accelerating Sarawak’s immunisation rollout.
Dr Annuar pointed out that a total of 2.08 million Sarawakians need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 while those aged 18 and above are encouraged to register for the vaccination.
Dr Annuar who is also Nangka assemblyman noted that in Sibu, there are 93,801 Sarawakians including those above the age of 18 who have yet to register for vaccination. — DayakDaily
