KUCHING, March 23: A total of 46 high-impact water supply projects worth RM766 million are currently being implemented to improve the infrastructure and water supply system in Bintulu.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said all projects are the result of attentive plans by the Sarawak government through his ministry and Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as well as the federal government through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW)

“All of these projects are implemented to accommodate the growing demand for water supply in Bintulu,” he told a press conference after a work visit to the JBALB Bintulu district office on Wednesday (March 22).

It is understood that so far, 29 water supply projects worth around RM216 million have been completed while nine projects with a cost of some RM130 million are still in the construction phase with positive development.

In addition, there are eight projects totaling some RM421 million still in the planning phase.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman said the implementation of these projects is expected to boost the socioeconomic status of the local community and become a catalyst for more sustainable economic growth as well as guarantee a better quality of life for Bintulu residents.

JBALB Sarawak will ensure that all projects currently being implemented will be completed within specified time frames.

“Each of these projects is part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System inspired by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to solve water supply issues effectively and comprehensively,” Dr Abdul Rahman added. — DayakDaily
