KUCHING, Jan 30: A total of 35,885 students in Sarawak including 149 with special needs, are sitting for their 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) written examination starting today until March 7, 2024.

This is a continuation of SPM practical tests that begun in Dec 5, 2023, followed by oral and listening tests.

Sarawak Education director Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad said the examination is taking place at 257 centres in the State with a total of 2,531 invigilators appointed to monitor the examination.

With regards to the flood season, he said the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) has identified schools or areas that are at risk of flood.

“So far, there is no report of schools or SPM centres affected by flood disaster.

“SPM candidates who are at risk of being affected by flood have been advised to stay in their dormitories as an option. They can also opt to stay with their close relatives or near the SPM centres,” he told reporters when met at Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak here today.

He also reminded SPM candidates as well as their parents or guardians to contact the nearest Bilik Gerakan Peperiksaan of JPNS or District Education Department (PPD) for further information or any necessary assistance.

Meanwhile, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak principal Reduan Taha said there are 54 candidates sitting for the SPM examination in the school beginning today.

“All of them are staying in the dormitory throughout the examination period,” he added. – DayakDaily
