34 workers from 3 supermarkets in Sri Aman, Bintulu, Bau test positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, Aug 17: A total of 34 workers from three supermarkets located in Sri Aman, Bintulu and Bau have been tested positive for Covid-19, triggering three new workplace clusters.

According to a daily report from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the three workplace clusters were Jalan Seringgok Cluster in Bau, Jalan Akses Cluster in Sri Aman and Jalan Johari Sunam in Bintulu with all of them involved workers of supermarkets.


For the Jalan Seringgok Cluster, there were 16 workers who tested positive out of a total 63 individuals swabbed while 36 of them tested negative and 11 people are awaiting for swab results.

For the Jalan Akses Cluster, 13 workers were tested positive out of 74 swabbed while 44 individuals are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 swab tests.

As for the Jalan Johari Sunam Cluster, five workers were tested positive out of 35 suspected cases and the balance of 30 individuals are still awaiting swab results .

SDMC said all Covid-19 patients from the clusters have been admitted to health facilities in Bintulu, Sri Aman and Kuching respectively for further treatment.

Meanwhile, while there were new clusters registered, there were existing clusters such as the Tema Saan Cluster in Tebedu and Sungai Sengkabang Cluster in Subis which were pronounced ended by SDMC following no new cases for the last 28 days.

With four new clusters formed and two ended, there are still 109 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak out of which 14 clusters reported 187 new cases of coronavirus. — DayakDaily
