32 Indonesians, 3 locals remanded for online gambling

KUCHING, May 23: Thirty-two Indonesians and three locals were today remanded for four days to facilitate investigation into an alleged illegal online gambling case.

The suspects are aged between 18 and 34, and the remand order was granted by Magistrate Chai Guan Hock.


All the suspects were detained yesterday, where 19 of them were arrested in a house in Jalan Kung Ping, while the rest were rounded up in a house in Jalan Stephen Yong.

During the raids, which were held about 20 minutes apart, police seized nine computers and 18 handphones from the house in Jalan Kung Ping and six computers and 12 handphones from the premises in Jalan Stephen Yong.

Preliminary investigation states that each centre’s monthly revenue is about RM800,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM50,000 and a jail term of up to 3 years, with additional punishment for each gaming machine. — DayakDaily
