KUCHING, April 18: Organisers for Samarahan marathon, Hock Seng Lee (HSL) announces that there are 300 tickets left for the first ever HSL marathon taking place at Samarahan on May 11 and May 12.

According to HSL’s press release, the event will take place in conjunction with the Mother’s Day celebration and offers various categories for everyone from a 42km full marathon to 3km fun runs, with the 21km tickets already sold out. Race packs will be available for collection from May 9.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos said that it would be the first marathon to take place in Samarahan and was grateful for HSL’s support in organising the event.

“We (MPKS and HSL) wanted to organise the marathon because it’s one way to promote Samarahan and get people outside Samarahan to get to know more about this area,” he said during a press conference at HSL Tower, La Promenade Mall today.

Minos said that the event has received support from MARA University of Technology (UiTM) and University of Malaysia, Sarawak (Unimas), with the latter offering 200 paid volunteers to assist in the marathon.

At the same time, he also invited all the participants to visit the Samarahan Food and Cultural Festival which will be taking place at Aiman Mall, Kota Samarahan from May 10 to May 19.

Meanwhile, HSL director, Yu Ji, thanked MPKS for their collaboration as well as the City Jogger’s Club (CJC) which is responsible for planning out the routes for each category for the marathon.

“There is hardly any elevation gain, making this course perfect for pros and beginners. I expect many runners to beat their personal best during this marathon,” said Yu Ji.

According to Yu Ji, unlike the competitive categories, the fun run category will focus on the best-dressed participants with esteemed influencers like Global Gibbon and members of the Wanka Travel Team serving as guest judges for this lively event.

In addition, he also hoped to have an international category in future marathons, acknowledging the foreign participants from the African continent, Singapore, and Brunei.

The marathon will have a fun run category consisting of 3km and 6km runs with flag-off at 7.15pm and 6.15pm respectively on May 11 (Saturday). Meanwhile, the 10km, 21km, and 42km marathon runners will be flagged off at 5.30am, 4am, and 1am respectively on May 12 (Sunday).
