KUCHING, Oct 13: Singapore, despite its limited natural resources, still thrives because of its skilled, talented workforce, something Sarawak can emulate.
In a statement, political pundit Dato Peter Minos said Sarawak had abundant natural resources, and if combined with the right expertise and skills, the State could achieve greater economic progress and become more industrialised and advanced.
He was commenting on the Sarawak Budget 2027, which allocated RM200 million to the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) for next year.
“With free tertiary education, Sarawak will be able to produce more skilled professionals in the coming years. We badly need skilled workers and experts to advance further, become more industrialised, and achieve greater progress.
“Look at other progressive and advanced nations, or simply look at our neighbour, Singapore. Despite having very limited natural resources, Singapore has excelled and achieved remarkable progress because of its skilled and talented workforce.
“Sarawak has abundant natural resources, and if we combine these resources with the right expertise and skills, we can reach the top. Yes, we can,” he said.
He also said Sarawak will soon have an education council to strengthen education policies and programmes, which Minos described as a commendable move that shows how seriously the State government takes education.
“I must say that the Sarawak government has taken the right and proper steps in advancing education for Sarawakians. This is a very positive and commendable effort,” he said. — DayakDaily
