MIRI, Nov 10: Three local men were arrested by the police on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly stealing oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) valued at about RM300 from an orchard at Tanjung Berlipat.

The arrest was made in less than three hours after the 39-year-old orchard owner lodged a police report.

The suspects aged from 24, 25 and 54 were picked up from an unnumbered house in Kampung Tanjung Berlipat at around 2.50pm.

Also seized were a pick-up truck and 17 of the FFBs.

In the 11am incident, the orchard’s owner had spotted suspects loading the FFBs into a pick-up truck before fleeing the scene.

Despite being confronted and told to stop, the suspects had ignored the owner and fled.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed the arrests.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for stealing.

In several areas in Miri, the price for FFBs can reach up to RM1,000 per tonne. — DayakDaily
