SIBU, Jan 13: The police have arrested three men after finding 6,000 litres of illicit diesel worth RM818,900 in their possession yesterday (Jan 12).
10th Battalion General Operation Force (GOF) Commanding Officer, Supt Mohammad Hafiz Kadir said the arrest was made during Op Kontraban at about 2.30pm at a jetty in Sungai Merah.
“Our enforcement team had also seized a fishing vessel and a tanker truck worth RM500,000 and RM300,000 respectively,” he said.
Mohammad Hafiz added that the three suspects were in the midst of transferring diesel to the fishing vessel berthed at a public jetty when they were caught red-handed.
“Upon further inspection, the team found six oil barrels contained diesel and an unestimated amount of diesel in the tanker truck,” he said.
The suspects had failed to show documents as proof of ownership of the diesel.
Along with the seized items, the suspects had been referred to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) Sibu Branch for further action. — Dayakdaily
