KUCHING, Jan 13: A total of 46 residents from five families in Kampung Seduan Jaya, Sibu have been evacuated to the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) in Kampung Jariah hall following flood occurrence in the area since Tuesday (Jan 11).

According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaae said the flood was caused by drainage problems combined with heavy rainfall.

He thus urged those affected by the flood to evacuate immediately.

“We do not want any emergency incidents to occur when they (those affected) are still at home, as it would make rescue efforts difficult,” he said.

Concerned with the plight of the victims, Dr Annuar went down to the ground on Wednesday (Jan 12) to monitor and help coordinate the assistance to flood victims.

Meanwhile, the PPS in Kampung Jariah hall has been active since yesterday following the floods in Sibu areas, especially in Kampung Jeriah and Kampung Seduan Jaya.

As of today, the Civil Defence Force (APM) said there is no increase in the number of victims in the PPS.

The evacuation operation was assisted by Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba). — DayakDaily
