KUCHING, April 19: The Sarawak government has identified 279 venues throughout Sarawak to be designated as vaccination centres for the following phases of the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (Pick).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said all Resident’s Offices in the 12 divisions are working hard with the respective Divisional Disaster Management Committees (DDMCs) in preparation for vaccine arrivals.

“The second phase of the vaccination rollout plan where appointments have been given out by the Special Committee of Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) will begin on April 19 and onwards.

“Phase 2 will focus on the elderly and those who have comorbidities. We anticipate Phase 3 to begin in May, 2021 subjected to vaccine supply,” he said during a special press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

On the supply of vaccines in Sarawak, Abang Johari said he had granted approval for Sarawak to purchase sufficient doses of vaccines to expedite immunisation coverage for Sarawakians.

He said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas had already met with Pick coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin to discuss legal obligation matters in order for Sarawak to purchase its own vaccine supply.

“I was informed that Khairy had assured us that they will support by supplying Sarawak with enough vaccines to meet Sarawak’s goal to complete its vaccination plan by end of August,” he said.

Noting that the vaccination rollout plan in Sarawak is still currently on track, he urged members of the public to register for their vaccinations by all available means including via the MySejahtera application or manually through District Offices and Resident’s Offices.

Also present at the press conference were Uggah and Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian. — DayakDaily
