Phase Two of Covid-19 vaccination in Sibu begins with over 900 jabs for frontliners, senior citizens

KUCHING, April 19: Over 900 individuals including frontliners and senior citizens aged 75-years-old and above will receive Covid-19 vaccinations at the Sibu Indoor Stadium today.

Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (Sibu DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said today signifies the start of Phase Two of the Covid-19 vaccination programme in Sibu.

“Today is the day it begins the Second Phase of the National Immunisation Programme in Sibu.

“This morning, we had the opportunity to officiate the vaccination centre at the Sibu Indoor Stadium.

“More than 900 senior citizens and frontliners received their respective vaccinations. It is understood that the senior citizens given injections today are those aged 75 and above,” he said via a Facebook post today.

On April 17, Sarawak Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hong said Sibu would be the first district in Sarawak to roll out Phase Two of the vaccination programme, followed by Kuching, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Mukah and Miri on April 23.

For Samarahan, Bintulu and Limbang districts, Phase Two will start on April 24, and Sarikei on April 30.

From April 17 to 30, Dr Chin said, there would be a total of 13 mass vaccination centres operating in the whole of Sarawak, excluding health clinics that are also giving out vaccination jabs. — DayakDaily
