KUCHING, Feb 27: Some 249,000 Sarawakians have yet to go for their Covid-19 booster jabs.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the booster dose is vital to protect everyone against the new Omicron variant.

“Please make use of the opportunities given by the government. The booster dose is to strengthen your double vaccination doses,” he said.

As of Feb 26, he added, the Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) reported about 86.3 per cent of the total Sarawak population is already boosted.

Uggah, who is also the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman called on members of the public to continue to observe all standard operating procedures (SOPs) as the current Omicron variant is highly transmissible.

He also noted there were 476 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak today, followed by yesterday’s 483 cases.

Uggah said this when officiating at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) triennial delegates conference of Kampung Tengah Spaoh sub-branch at the community hall today.
