238 Covid-19 cases in Kuching today, 423 in total throughout Sarawak

KUCHING, July 16: Kuching has topped Sarawak’s Covid-19 daily toll by registering 238 or 56.26 per cent of the total 423 new cases today.

According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching is the only district with a triple-digit number of cases among all 30 districts today.


Other districts that saw double-digit infections were Meradong (26), Sibu (23), Betong (21), Serian (15), Saratok (13), Bintulu (11), Sarikei (11), Kapit (10) and Bau (10).

The rest were Subis (6), Pakan (5), Tatau (5), Beluru (4), Matu (4), Simunjan (3), Mukah (2), Lundu (2), Telang Usan (2), Marudi (2), Miri (1), Samarahan (1), Asajaya (1), Sri Aman (1), Bukit Mabong (1), Selangau (1), Song (1), Dalat (1), Julau (1) and Pusa (1).

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak now stands at 70,651.

“Of the 423 patients today, 247 were detected following close contact screenings where eight of them were symptomatic.

“Another 87 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where one showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 37 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, and 52 cases were from other screenings in health facilities,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

Meanwhile, the committee also reported zero new deaths from Covid-19 today, as the death toll remains unchanged at 443.

Today, 849 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, with 5,080 active cases in isolation or treatment. — DayakDaily
