2 new clusters declared involving Meradong longhouse with 21 cases, 2 longhouses in Betong with 31 cases


KUCHING, July 16: Two clusters of Covid-19 infections have been identified at a longhouse under lockdown in Meradong and two longhouses in Betong with 21 cases and 31 cases respectively confirmed so far.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, said the Meradong cluster dubbed Bukit Tinggi involved a longhouse under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) located at Bukit Tinggi in Ulu Strass, Meradong.

As of today, 29 individuals have been screened with 19 tested positive while six tested negative and two are still awaiting lab test results.


All the positive cases have been admitted to Sarikei Hospital and Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Sarikei for treatment and isolation.

As for the Betong cluster dubbed Lempaong, it was detected following targeted mass testing at two longhouses located at Lempaong Spak.

A total of 55 individuals have been screened with 21 tested positive today while 23 tested negative and one is still awaiting lab test result.

All positive cases have been admitted to Betong Hospital and PKRC Betong for treatment and isolation.

The State Health Department has also declared the end of four clusters, namely Nanga Meruan in Selangau, Jalan Ilmu in Miri, Jalan Kidurong Empat in Bintulu and Kampung Sungai Agas in Kuching, after no new local cases were recorded in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stood at 96, out of which 13 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections of 95 cases.

They are Sentosa 2 Cluster in Kuching which added 29 more cases, new Lempaong Cluster in Betong (19 cases), Bukit Tinggi Cluster in Meradong (19 cases), Semuja Cluster in Serian (6 cases), Duyoh Cluster in Bau (5 cases), Jalan Teo Kui Ngo Cluster in Meradong (4 cases), Pasar Basah Mukah Cluster in Mukah and Kampung Kendaie Cluster in Lundu (2 cases each) while Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau, Jalan Haji Taha Cluster in Kuching, Sungai Pelepak Cluster in Meradong and Benteng Sri Aman Cluster in Sri Aman has one case each. — DayakDaily
