KUCHING, Aug 5: It has been clarified by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) that the stall serving drinks at the 2022 Kuching Festival was not using pipe water, but filtered water that is safe to be consumed.

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng held a Facebook live session earlier to shed light on a viral video showing a staff making drinks with water coming out of a hose that was left on the floor.

Since last night, the video has been circulating on social media, with netizens questioning the cleanliness of drinks served at the festival.

The stall operator, who was also present during the livestream, explained that they have been using filtered water that is connected to a commercial-use filter.

“As you can see here, we are using a commercial-use filter. The water is in fact filtered twice. It’s different from the home-use ones. So, the filtered water is 100 per cent clean to be consumed,” he said.

As for the part where the hose channeling filtered water was left on the floor before use, Wee said the stall was issued a warning letter this morning.

Admitting their mistake, the stall operator immediately installed a proper water tap to channel the filtered water into buckets before they are scooped out to mix with syrup into cordial drinks.

The stall operator also made a public apology for their negligence in allowing the water hose to be left on the floor and assured the water supplied for the drinks is industry standard, clean and safe for consumption.

Meanwhile, stall sponsor Leaves Food Industries Sdn Bhd clarified in a social post today that they were not involved with operating the stall. — DayakDaily
