MIRI, June 26: The forthcoming 14th Borneo Jazz Festival will feature 15 bands from various parts of the world, and the organiser hopes to attract 4,000 enthusiasts.

It will be held from July 19 to 21 at Coco Cabana Miri, said Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin during a press conference here today.

The event will also have youth and outreach programmes such as music workshops, including the Borneo Jazz DJ search to help local aspiring musicians. There is no participation fee for the workshops.

On the traffic flow during the festival, Lee said the organiser would be providing shuttle bus services to alleviate the problem of traffic congestion.

“I have also requested the Miri Immigration Department to increase their manpower to ensure smooth traffic flow at the Immigration checkpoint at Sungai 7 during the festival,” he revealed.

Lee expressed his delight with the system installed at the border checkpoint at Sungai 7. Overall operations have improved with the introduction of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) yesterday (June 25).

“I am happy to see that finally the system has been improved, whereby with the VEP, all motorists have to do is scan the code using the printed VEP every time they pass through the border,” he said.

To get the VEP, vehicles owners merely need to log on to www.customssg7.my.
