LAWAS, July 24: A family’s night turned tragic when their 12-year-old son suddenly fell ill, vomited, and collapsed at home before he was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Lawas Hospital on Wednesday (July 22).
Lawas District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Liong Tindan said police received a report at 12.02am after the victim, who lived with his mother, complained of dizziness before vomiting and losing consciousness.
“The victim was taken to Lawas Hospital for treatment, but further examination by doctors confirmed that he had died,” he said in a statement today, according to a news report by TVS.
He said initial investigations found no criminal elements involved in the incident, and the case has been classified as sudden death.
Meanwhile, Liong said a man was arrested on Tuesday (July 21) for allegedly assaulting his former wife in an incident on Monday (July 20).
He said police received a report from the victim at 4.22am, claiming she was slapped and kicked by the suspect, causing injuries and trauma.
“The suspect was arrested at his home for further investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994,” he said.
In another case, a 31-year-old labourer was arrested on July 14 for allegedly being involved as a mule account holder in an e-commerce scam that caused a 19-year-old woman to lose RM1,130.
Liong said the victim had made payment for a mobile phone advertised on social media but later realised she had been scammed after being asked to make additional payments, while the phone was never received. He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
In a separate operation, six men aged between 25 and 65 were detained during an integrated drug abuse operation carried out in Lawas town, Punang, and Trusan between July 14 and 22.
Liong said 2.60 grammes of drugs were seized during the operation, while all suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in urine screening tests.
The cases are being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — DayakDaily
