1,178 new Covid-19 cases, six fatalities reported in Malaysia

KUCHING, April 1: There were 1,178 new Covid-19 cases were reported throughout the country with six deaths today.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement today said from the total number of new cases recorded, 20 are imported, while 1,158 are local transmissions.

ā€œSarawak reported the highest number of daily cases today with 238 cases, followed by Selangor with 237 cases, Pulau Pinang with 190 cases, Johor (165), Kuala Lumpur (101), Sabah (86), Negeri Sembilan (34), Kedah (32), Perak (31), Kelantan (27), Pahang (14), Melaka (nine), Labuan (seven), Terengganu (six), and Putrajaya (1), while Perlis recorded zero new cases.


ā€œThis brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 346,678 cases, with 14,399 active cases remaining,ā€ he said.

Dr Noor Hisham noted currently 163 cases are being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) with 81 of them requiring respiratory assistance.

“As of today, six deaths involving Covid-19 were also reported in the country, with two cases recorded in Sarawak, and one each for Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Johor and Sabah, involving five Malaysian and one foreigner, bringing the total cumulative death cases due to Covid-19 in the country to 1,278 cases (0.37 per cent),ā€ he added.

Dr Noor Hisham also disclosed six new clusters have also been identified today, comprising five workplace clusters and one community cluster.

The clusters are Jalan Sungai Ramal (15 cases) and Bukit Serdang (29 cases) clusters in Selangor, Jalan Teluk Kumbar cluster (12 cases) in Pulau Pinang, Kait Gading (65 cases) and Jalan Permas Cetak (nine cases) clusters in Johor, and Taman Emas cluster (16 cases) in Pahang. ā€” DayakDaily
