DAP Batu Kitang slams insipid efforts by MPP and KWB to resolve water woes

Abdul Aziz (white shirt) is seen speaking to one of the residents of Lorong 13M Jalan Arang during his visit to the KWB construction site to repair the pipe burst, today (April 1, 2021).

KUCHING, April 1: DAP Batu Kitang chairman Abdul Aziz Isa laments the lacklustre efforts by the Kuching Water Board (KWB) and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to address public complaints.

Abdul Aziz in a press statement today said the residents of Lorong 13M Jalan Arang have made several complaints pertaining to burst pipes in their area, which seemed to have been ignored or unattended to by the MPP and KWB.

ā€œThe delay in taking concrete action and the prolonging of the issue has caused distress to the residents here. Such ignorance on the part of MPP and KWB has affected the daily lives of the residents,ā€ he said.

ā€œAs such, on behalf of the residents, Iā€™ve contacted KWB and highlighted the issue via my Facebook page. The following day (Tuesday, 30.03.2021), KWB came over to start their project to replace the old pipe along Lorong 13M Jalan Arang. It seems like it requires political pressure from DAP to push KWB to take action,ā€ he said.

At the same time, Abdul Aziz, who is also a special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, noted he was informed that the pipeline replacement project undertaken by KWB at Lorong 13 Jalan Arang will be completed by today.

He said his team will visit the site again to ensure that KWB carries out pressure monitoring and leak detection activities at Lorong 13M Jalan Arang area from time to time to reduce water loss due to pipe leakages, once the work is completed.

ā€œThis phase is important to ensure that the pressure is kept at an optimum level. On behalf of the residents, I would like to thank KWB for taking steps to resolve the water problems faced by residents of Lorong 13M Jalan Arang.

ā€œI hope that in the future, when KWB receives complaints from the residents within their jurisdictions, they can attend to their complaints and take proper actions to solve the issues immediately,ā€ he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz also gave assurance that the road stretch involved in the repair works will be properly resurfaced for the convenience of road users and residents in the area.

According to him, during the progress of the project, he saw a few sections of the roads had been drilled by KWB.

ā€œTherefore, once the pipe renewal project is completed, I will ensure that MPP will perform their duties to resurface the whole stretch of the road for the convenience of the residents here. I hope that MPP will do their job and not neglect the area once KWB completes their project,ā€ he said. ā€” DayakDaily
