KUCHING, Jan 21: Eleven teenagers were charged at Magistrate’s Court here today in relation to a fight that is believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding over a girl.
All eleven accused, age between 14 and 18, including the girl pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar fixed February 24 to hear the social report and probation report of all the accused persons before passing sentence on all of them.
The magistrate also allowed all the accused to be released on bail of RM10,000 and one of their parents as their surety.
They were found in possession of deadly weapons which included a knife, iron, sticks and helmet and taking part in a riot with common intention in front of a hotel in Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, at about 11.50am, on January 17, 2021.
They were charged under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of five years or with fine or both, upon conviction.
One of the eleven accused was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening to assault the guard of the hotel.
The 18-year-old accused pleaded guilty to the charge.
However, Magistrate Zaiton Anuar fixed February 19 to hear his social report before passing sentence.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted while all the accused are not represented by counsel. — DayakDaily
