MIRI, Mar 7: A senior citizen from a longhouse in Saeh Putih, Niah, has been detained by the police for criminally intimidating his next-door neighbour with a shotgun.

The arrest was made following a report lodged by the 39-year-old female complainant.

According to Miri police Chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the 68-year-old suspect had grabbed a shotgun after the complainant intervened in a fight between the suspect and his wife on Thursday evening (Mar 5) around 5pm.

It was believed that the suspect was inebriated during the incident.

The suspect was arrested that same day by the police.

He was alleged to have threatened to shoot the complainant with the shotgun for intervening in the altercation between him and his wife.

Fearing for her safety, the complainant fled from the suspect’s ‘bilik’.

Prior to the incident, the suspect had been fighting with his wife.

His worried neighbour (the complainant) had rushed to their longhouse unit to check on the wife as she feared for her safety.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.—DayakDaily
