TELOK MELANO, Aug 21: Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has embraced the “cousins” description used by netizens to describe the close ties between Pahang and Sarawak.

“As I was reading the comments on TikTok and elsewhere, people were saying that Pahang and Sarawak are like cousins.

“Insya-Allah, that is the sentiment and description used by netizens.

I agree with it, and my children have also embraced the idea that we are cousins,” he said when officiating Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah in Telok Melano here today.

The “cousin” reference gained traction among Sarawakians after Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah used the phrase during the Kembara Kenali Borneo royal tour in September 2023.

Tengku Hassanal’s remarks became popular on social media as he won the hearts of Sarawakians during the royal tour, which saw the Pahang royal family travelling through Sabah and Sarawak. — DayakDaily
