KUCHING, Oct 25: A proposed golf course between Sematan and Telok Melano has cleared the approval stage, although its implementation will depend on whether the project proponent decides to proceed.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg confirmed the approval when speaking to reporters after flagging off the Rimbun International Sematan Run 2026 here today.

“It is up to them whether they will implement it, but a golf course has been approved in the area between Sematan and Telok Melano,” he said, according to a report by TVS.

The Premier traced Sarawak’s tourism development plans for Sematan and Lundu to the administration of former chief minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

“With the Pan Borneo Highway from Telok Melano to Kuching and further north, we can enhance tourism-based recreational development in Telok Melano, Sematan and Lundu, extending to Tasik Biru in Bau,” he explained.

Abang Johari also highlighted the area’s coastal attractions and nearby islands, including Pulau Satang and the Talang-Talang Islands, as assets that could complement the tourism push.

He pointed to the need for supporting infrastructure, including conference centres and accommodation, to meet the requirements of the hospitality industry.

The proposed recreational and hospitality developments could broaden the range of attractions available to visitors in Sematan and Lundu. — DayakDaily
