SERIAN, June 15: Two water dispensers have been installed at SMK Serian following a report that students were using tap water from the toilets for drinking.
Acting on this report, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus immediately went to the school and provided two water dispensers, offering a solution to the school’s clean drinking water issue.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the water dispensers were installed on Friday (June 14), ensuring that students and school staff have easy access to clean drinking water.
John expressed hope that the school and the District Education Office will collaborate with the Sarawak Education Department and the Malaysian Ministry of Education to repair and upgrade the old pipes at SMK Serian.
“The school is still experiencing water shortage problems even though it is equipped with a water tank due to a long-standing pipe leak,” he said.
Additionally, the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Serian Division and the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication have been urged to assist in investigating and resolving the problem. — DayakDaily
