MIRI, Nov 6: Voters in Mulu, Marudi and Telang Usan have been reminded to rally behind Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming state election.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) deputy president, said this is crucial to ensure continuous development in these areas.

“Now is not the time to try to give the Opposition a chance to win in any of these constituencies,” Uggah said today in Long Lama during the launching of the PBB Telang Usan liaison committee.

Uggah’s text of speech was read by Baram MP Anyi Ngau.

He added that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg have brought in and carried out development over the years.

During the chief minister’s visit to Long Laput recently, Uggah said Abang Johari asked the people to give him and his team another five years to ensure continuous development.

“Under Abang Johari, various initiatives have been introduced which benefited the people, such as the RM1.5 billion allocation for Highland Development Authority (HDA) to further develop the area,” he said.

He added that the component parties under GPS — PBB, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) — have been the backbone of the State government.

“We continue to grow together to bring development to the people of Sarawak.”

Also present at the event was Telang Usan incumbent Dennis Ngau.
