KUCHING, Nov 6: The completion of the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Zone 1 Reticulation System Project this month would resolve the issue of water supply disruption at Kampung Sibu Laut and Kampung Sungai Aur, in Telaga Air.

According to JBALB in a statement today, Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the close cooperation between the federal government through the Ministry of Rural Development and state government through the Ministry of Utilities, with JBALB as the implementing agency, is one of the factors that contributed to the success of this project which benefited more than 200 residents in both villages.

“The project implementation cost which is more than RM4 million involves the construction of a new pipeline, including a submarine pipeline crossing Sg Sibu Laut to Kampung Sibu Laut and to Kampung Sungai Aur, as well as the construction of an inline booster pump station.

“This project is going to solve the water supply issue in both areas, as well as bridging the gap between the rural and urban areas to have access to basic facilities,” he said.

In addition, Rundi noted that the project is also expected to boost the socio-economic status of the local community.

“It is expected to catalyse the tourism sector as well as guarantee a better quality of life for the villagers,” he added.

Meanwhile, JBALB assured that it is always willing to work together with the Kuching Water Board to provide the best service to the people. – DayakDaily
