[VIDEO] Spread awareness, not fire: Sarawak Bomba launches Festive Season Fire Safety Campaign for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024

KUCHING, April 4: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) launched the department’s Fire Safety Campaign today in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024.

During the launching ceremony that at Sarawak Bomba headquarters here today, Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), commended Sarawak Bomba director Datu Khirudin Drahman and the department for their consistent efforts in spreading awareness and conducting fire safety campaigns especially with festive seasons closing in.


“This (the campaign) is especially important. We (Sarawakians) just celebrated Chinese New Year not long ago, and Hari Raya Aidilfitri (is) coming soon. After this will be the Gawai celebration.

“I congratulate the director for always conducting these fire safety campaigns prior to each festivity to spread awareness among the people,” he said.

Dr Sim expressed his hope the State would create ordinance to make residential areas safer by keeping the safety levels up to standard.

Meanwhile, Khirudin took the opportunity to remind everyone to be aware of the 3L syndrome which is the ‘Leka, Lupa, Lalai’ (complacent, forgetful, negligent), especially housewives when it comes to cooking at home.

“This is how fires can happen, because of the 3L syndrome. Everyone, please be alert”, he said.

Following the opening ceremony, the guests witnessed a demonstration on how to put out three types of fire occurring in the kitchen: stove fire, hose fire, and fire from the gas cylinder.

Bomba also collaborated with the Sheraton Hotel management in their efforts to educate the public regarding safety through their ‘Get Out Alive’ programme. — DayakDaily
