BINTULU, Jan 16: The management of Samalaju Port stayed true to its promise to the Sarawak government to resolve issues centred on its main vessel turnaround time by December 2022.
According to the report, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said this is important as the port was expected to play a critical role in the State’s industrial development activities, especially in Samalaju.
In its briefing to the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Dato Majang Renggi, who visited the port today, the Samalaju Port management has made significant strides in improving its port services to investors at Samalaju Industrial Park.
The Samalaju Port management explained that port equipment issues, mainly the cranes, have been rectified and deployed.
It explained that the uptime of cranes is instrumental in improving overall productivity and ship turnaround time.
Furthermore, Samalaju Port is also actively working to procure additional port machinery, collaborating with investors to improve the current conveyor system, and looking into upgrading its infrastructure in line with smart port development.
Accompanying the deputy minister were the permanent secretary, Chiew Chee Yau; Resident Bintulu, Nyurak Keti; and ministry officers. — DayakDaily
