Vehicles exceeding permitted capacity account for most compounded SOP violations

KUCHING, June 7: Vehicles carrying more passengers than allowed accounted for the most compounds issued by the police in the most recent 24-hour period.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), there were 20 compounds issued for vehicles carrying more than the two-person limit permitted during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period which is in force until June 14.


Apart from that, there were 16 compounds issued for curfew violations, 14 compounds issued for gatherings of more than two people in public areas, not wearing facemasks in public places (9), opening business premises which is disallowed during MCO (6), not checking in using MySejahtera (4) and travelling inter-district without permission (1).

SDMC said there were 70 compounds issued by the police for standard operating procedure (SOP) violations.

By district, Bintulu has the highest total with 15 compounds issued followed by Kuching with 11, Miri (10), Sibu (8), Sarikei (8), Lawas (6), Dalat (3), Kapit (3), Bau (3), Serian (1), Kota Samarahan (1) and Padawan.

By local councils, there were a total of 15 compounds issued.

Eight compounds were issued by the Bintulu Development Authority, two by Serian District Council, two by Meradong and Julau District Council, two by Miri City Council and one by Sarikei District Council.

They were for various offences including not updating the registration book for visitors, not checking in using MySejahtera, vehicle carrying passengers more than the limit permitted, did not provide a thermometer for measuring body temperature, and dining in. ā€” DayakDaily
