KUCHING, Nov 3: The Bintulu Anaq Vaie Association (PAVB) condemns any unfounded speculations and allegations circulating during the campaign for the Jepak by-election and has pledged unwavering support for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Iskandar Turkee.

President Pandi Suhaili emphasised the association’s stance against baseless rumours and defamation aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the association, its leadership, and its members during the Jepak by-election campaign.

“PAVB and its members stand firmly united, extending our complete support and acknowledgement to Sarawak’s Premier and GPS chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said in a statement today.

Highlighting the significance of unity and loyalty, he called upon all PAVB members to unite in expressing their dedication and robust backing for the GPS candidate vying for the N67 Jepak seat.

Pandi underscored that the association acknowledges the pivotal role in securing triumph and fortifying unity, which fundamentally contributes to the political steadiness of Sarawak, including in the Jepak constituency.

“Consequently, PAVB stands as part of the main fortress in defending the excellent leadership of GPS to fortify Sarawak’s continuous progress and prosperity,” he added.

As a non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded to preserve and cultivate the heritage of the Vaie ethnic race, PAVB reiterated its deep commitment to ensuring the triumph and success of GPS in the Jepak by-election.

The Jepak by-election, taking place tomorrow (Nov 4), will witness a three-cornered contest between GPS-PBB’s Iskandar Turkee, Sarawak People Aspiration’s Party (Aspirasi) represented by Chieng Lea Phing, and Stevenson Joseph Sumbang of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).

The Jepak seat became vacant following the passing of its six-term incumbent, Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who held the seat since 1996 and passed away on Sept 15, 2023, at 72 due to health complications. — DayakDaily
