UTS collaborates with New York Institute of Finance to offer professional certification to staff and students

SIBU, Nov 1: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) today forged a collaboration with New York Institute of Finance (NYIF) and NIUFU Consulting Management (M) Sdn Bhd (NIUFU) that will allow its staff to have access to professional certification.

Speaking at the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony, UTS vice chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said NYIF provides world-class training to professionals in financial services and related industries.


He added that NYIF is one of the world’s first dedicated organisations for training business and finance professionals which has expanded its services worldwide.

“With this collaboration, NYIF will provide practical courses, curriculum and experts knowledge related to the financial industry.

“Staff and students who complete these courses will be awarded with certificates issued by NYIF, which are globally recognised and trusted by international financial organisations.

“They will become members of the prestigious NYIF global alumni network. With its vast network of university partners, NYIF will promote and facilitate joint educational programmes with selected universities in USA,” he said

On UTS’ collaboration with NIUFU, Khairuddin said that it was to carry out activities such as industrial training, entrepreneurship training, student recruitment and business development programmes.

“Both MoUs are for a period of 3 years and the School of Business and Development (SMB) will be the main contact entity representing UTS.

“At the same, we believe that through this collaboration, the students will have the opportunity to obtain invaluable international professional certification in specific topics of industrial relevance, especially in the fields of business and finance,” he said.

Meanwhile, NIUFU chairman Professor Datuk Dr Sabarudin Mohd said that there are four aspects and areas that they are seeking collaboration in with UTS.

“First is to offer NYIF professional courses to UTS students, meaning to offer some additional certification for all the students here. This will be another recognition for the students.

“Two, to do student recruitment, we are not only a recruitment agency but we wanted to become the collaborator, meaning we will take care of the students we recruit from A to Z, until their graduation,” he said.

Sabarudin also noted that NIUFU also will help students through an exchange programme. — DayakDaily
