KUCHING, June 13: Creative projects produced by students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (UNIMAS) Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA) may gain international exposure through the upcoming International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Convention at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in October.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), UNIMAS Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Al-Khalid Othman said the possibility demonstrates the quality and relevance of the students’ work, which he believes is worthy of being presented on an international platform.

“The projects being considered were among those exhibited during CIPTA 2026, where our final-year students presented the outcomes of their research, creative exploration and academic training.

“What we have seen through these projects is the students’ ability to translate ideas into creative works that are both innovative and relevant to current societal challenges,” he said at the closing ceremony of the event held recently.

Meanwhile, FACA Dean Dr. Louis Ringah Kayan said CIPTA serves as a platform for students to showcase the outcomes of their academic training, research and creative experimentation.

“This year’s exhibition featured a diverse range of projects integrating elements of art, culture, technology and innovation, reflecting the breadth of talent within the faculty,” he said.

The potential inclusion of selected projects at the ICOMOS Convention would provide students with an opportunity to present their work to an international audience while highlighting the capabilities of Sarawak’s emerging creative talent. — DayakDaily
