KUCHING, Sept 24: Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) is on the right track as the communication and information machinery of Sarawak, says Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
He said Ukas which comprises staff members from various backgrounds and expertise, plays an important role in spreading the Sarawak government’s initiatives and policies to the grassroot level.
He also expressed his thanks to Ukas members who have to carry out their reporting duties even in the interior of Sarawak, according to a news report by Ukas today.
“I appreciate and praise their sacrifices who have to carry out their duties in tough places.
“Some even had to get on longboats to attend programmes at different places and I understand their sacrifices,” said Abdullah during the celebration of former Ukas director Samat Junai’s retirement at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Friday (Sept 23).
Meanwhile, Ukas acting director Samuel Simon recorded his appreciation to Samat for his dedicated service and for leading Ukas for over two years.
“As we all know, we in the Ukas family are all very grateful to Tuan Haji Samat for being an authoritative leader in Ukas for more than two years.
“Because of his leadership, Ukas management has become one of the most respected units in the Sarawak public service despite only being four years old.
“Personally, I have learned many things from him as a leader because different leaders have different administrative style but what is significant is that he had led Ukas with his extensive experience,” said Samuel. — DayakDaily
