Uggah satisfied Batang Saribas 1 and 2 bridge projects both ahead of schedule

BETONG, March 1: The construction of the Batang Saribas 1 and Batang Saribas 2 bridge projects are both ahead of schedule.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who visited the site here today said he is satisfied with their work progress.

“The current work progress for Batang Saribas 1 bridge is at 62.51 per cent against the schedule of 61.61 per cent.


“The 1.55km long bridge costing RM375.5 million is targeted to be completed by May 22, 2024,” he said in a statement today.

As for Batang Saribas 2 bridge project costing RM385 million, Uggah who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), said the construction physical progress is at 12.19 per cent versus its schedule of 11.22 per cent.

The 4.2km long Batang Saribas 2 bridge is scheduled to be completed by May 24, 2025.

Meanwhile, when speaking to the media later, Uggah gave assurance that his ministry and the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak will continue to closely monitor the implementation of all approved projects in Sarawak.

“We will be strict in our monitoring and supervision. We will continue to do frequent ground visits to check on or verify the progress reports sent to us.

“When projects are approved and announced publicly, the people are very anxious to use them. So we need to ensure they will be delivered based on the quality and delivery schedule agreed upon,” he emphasised.

Earlier, Uggah who was accompanied MIPD permanent secretary Chiew Chew Yaw and JKR Sarawak deputy director Ir Ts Cassidy Morris had visited the project site of Batang Lupar 1 bridge, the nation’s longest bridge across river costing RM848.7 million, which is reported to be on track. — DayakDaily
