Uggah: Don’t let your guard down this festive season

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas

KUCHING, Dec 24: Sarawakians returning to celebrate the festive year-end season with families and friends in rural areas are urged to observe the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by authorities.

Despite the fewer Covid-19 cases recorded and hospital admissions recently, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas advised all not to let their guards down, especially with the presence of Omicron in Sarawak.

“Let us never be complacent, for the new Omicron variant is here, and who knows what other variants that will likely come our way.

“We can and will be punished for any lackadaisical or ‘tidak apa’ (it’s okay) attitude,” he said.

Uggah also noted the seasonal landas (monsoon) season, which is just around the corner, as he reminded those residing in flood-prone and low-lying areas to make the necessary preparations.

He advised gathering the contact numbers of all relevant agencies such as the Fire and Rescue (Bomba), welfare and police departments, and resident and district offices to be ready for communication in any eventualities.

On the 12th Sarawak Election, which had just ended, he thanked the people for giving Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) their support.

“Allow me to say a big thank you for the great support to the State GPS government.

“You have chosen to vote for stability and a bright future for all, especially our youth. Let me assure you that the new government will honour its ‘Sarawak First’ commitments.

“Together, we will restore Sarawak’s dignity, pride, and rightful position and rights as a founding member of the great nation of Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

Uggah also conveyed his Christmas wishes to all Christians and Sarawakians and wished everyone a blessed new year into 2022.

“May this Christmas season bring us unlimited blessings from God. May this Christmas end the year on a cheerful note and make way for a fresh and bright 2022.” — DayakDaily
