KUCHING, March 28: The registration for Covid-19 vaccination in the state is very encouraging.

Without revealing any figures, State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the committee has mobilised corresponding machinery via the respective district offices and rural community leaders.

ā€œThe numbers are very encouraging.

ā€œWe continue to mobilise the machinery to the grassroots level at the district offices and have informed the community leaders.

ā€œThis is to call on those who are 18-years-old and above to register for vaccination,ā€ he said during a press conference to give updates on the state’s Covid-19 situation today at the former State Legislative building here today.

Uggah who is also the Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that the strategy adopted by the state government now is to ensure all Sarawakians are vaccinated.

He explained that the state government is prepared to procure Covid-19 vaccines directly from manufacturers if the supply from the federal government is slightly delayed so that the Covid-19 immunisation programme in Sarawak will be implemented on schedule by August 2021.

Meanwhile, the state’s Covid-19 immunisation programme is divided into three main phases with Phase 4 for outbreak areas.

The first phase covering more than 97,000 frontliners started at the end of February and will continue to the end of March 2021.

The second phase which aims to vaccinate an estimated 956,435 elderly people and high risk groups with and without comorbidities will be implemented from April to May 2021.

The third phase targeting an estimated 999,834 individuals above 18-years-old will be carried out from May to August 2021.

In the meantime, phase two of the state vaccination programme will also include those residing in Covid-19 red zones (Phase 4) such as in Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu and Kuching. ā€” DayakDaily
