BARAM, Oct 23: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has called on Sarawakians not to be easily misled by the opposition against the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-held state government.

With the state election lurking in the horizon, Uggah asserted that the opposition will do their best to convince the rural folks to vote for their candidates.

“They will resort to making all sorts of sweet promises and claims. Our rural folks should learn from past experience where they had supported a member of parliament and a state assemblyman from the opposition who did not deliver anything significant to them. These opposition elected representatives have failed to deliver what they promised and it has affected the people,” Uggah said.

He was speaking at the Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) closing ceremony at Kampung Long Loyang community hall today.

On the other hand, Uggah asserted that the situation was very much different now because their Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has done otherwise.

“Your current representative Dennis has achieved a lot for all of you. He is young, hard working and full of ideas on how to bring in more progress in this area. He is also vocal in bringing Telang Usan’s needs in the State Legislative Assembly sittings. He has a very stable and strong GPS government by his side, whose core objectives are serving the people, develop rural areas and protect Sarawak’s rights and wealth.

“The Highland Development Agency was created out of this concern and an initial budget of RM1.5 billion has been allocated to implement basic infrastructure such as roads and bridges. In addition, the state government is in the process of planning more development projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan. Therefore, do not derail projects that are being implemented and planned by supporting the opposition. —DayakDaily
